This restoration/repair service primarily involves replacing the LCD display, which is commonly known for pixelating the mileage and message center.
Repairs include:
- New LCD with Ribbon and any backlight bulbs
- Reflowing PCB board resistors if cracked
- Rebuilding the backlight circuit plastics that crumble with age
- Adjusting stepper motors if needed

Special Considerations
- Previously opened or repaired clusters may require additional parts. The most common issue is damaged motors, which cost $50 each motor. (Max 4pcs)
- If the front lens is cracked or damaged they are $150 when available.
- If your cluster has Tampered/Damaged LED's like Check Engine or Airbag, I can replace each LED for $40.

After trying and failing to repair my own 540i gauge cluster, I threw in the towel and sent it to Tomas at BavTek.
Within days of receiving the cluster he had replaced the LCD screen and ribbon cable, and a stepper motor I broke (for a reasonable extra fee). He also checked the other motors to make sure they were good.
When he was done he sent pics and a video to show it had been fully repaired and described what he had done. When I got the part back and installed it, everything worked flawlessly. If I ever had another issue I wouldnt hesitate to send it to BavTek!
I really appreciate this pixel repair service. Just had my 3rd E39 cluster repaired by Bavtek. I've seen it done. It would be difficult for even a very good DIY person to get it right without a lot of practice. So, it's great to have a quick reliable service that does this so well. Thanks!
Had my E38 cluster pixels repaired and chrome rings installed. Great communication throughout and quick turnaround with tracking provided for return shipping. The only thing that stops it from being 100/100 is the pixel color is a slightly different shade than the pixels of the drivetrain position (P, N, R, D, etc.) located to the right of the main display. These were not repaired (or asked to be) as they worked fine but repaired pixels in the main display are a bit more orange than these. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and since both displays are always on, I notice the difference. Ideally they would match 100% but it could simply be due to the drivetrain pixels being original (old). Or maybe they were like that from the factory, my E38 had bad pixels when I got it so maybe even brand new ones in 2001 had different shades, I don’t know.
I still give it 5 stars and would recommend BavTek to anyone for pixel repair. The E38 cluster is a bit plain and the chrome rings really change that. They look like they belong there from the factory.
